(http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/270153) The same question was asked there recently and little information was forthcoming other than this rather cryptic posting:
"...What happened to Hedwig Hoess, wife of Rudolph Hoess, and her five children after the war and her release from British captivity? "
"I have searched extensively about Hoess`s four children, not five, and Frau Hedwig Hoess. Under certain restrictions imposed on me by the family I can tell you this. Hedwig sought a new life in Germany where she re-married and moved to America. All her children live in the States now. I`m afraid, that`s all I am intending to discuss at this point. (Also, as for picking clothing and other pieces of items from the dead is open to debate) " The parenthetical quote is in response to another post...

What I have just read on this site about Hedwig Hoess is helpful. Thank you. One of the Kommandant's grandchildren, Rainer Hoess, son of Hans-Rudolf, is now a chef who lives in Germany with his wife and two children. He has attempted to extensively research his background and his grandfather's life, has met Jewish people and discussed the Kommandant with them, and now wears a tiny Star of David on a necklace. All this has led to estrangement from his entire family who do not wish to acknowledge their past. Rainer Hoess has donated belongings of his grandfather to a museum in Munich. He initially offered to sell them to the Auschwitz museum, which created controversy and some confusion.
