I am in possession of a 1/2 pint tumbler on which the following legend is etched:-
HALF PINT
"crown logo"
G*R
487
Anyone know if this is GeorgeV or George V!

Cant' say, but it's a local one. The 487 refers to the Weights and Measures Authority who passed it and 487 happens to be the stamp for Dundee, and I presume from your name that that's where you hail from?

Thanks Dundurn --- Dundee it is! Think it will be GeorgeV1 but I`m not sure.
when someone bought some pharmacy vials with this on them I thought it was obvious that the G R referred to the legislation that regulated it - which I think is George II BUT then any glass made afterwards had the logo on it.

SO having a G II R logo on it just meant it complied with the relevant legislation
