Does anyone have any photos or memories of Croydon during this time? It's changed now beyond all recognition... the sprial walkways have gone from the Whitgift Centre, the pub has gone, and the Two Debenhams stores have merged into a shopping centre...

i can remember the hexogonal shaped pub in the shopping centre ( was it the forum ? ) and the bar in the bottom of the nestle building ( The grey hound ?), a cinema on a main road near a rolls royce showroom and macdonalds somewhere just outside the shopping centre. All this would of been around 1980/81 ish :-)
It's worth checking e-bay. Look under collectables then postcards then search postcards for Croydon. I have got some postcards of the town I live in now from the 1970s, it's amazing how much it has changed.
I remember auditing for Abbey National in 1972 and being very confused. I had checked all the tills in the Whitgift Centre Branch only to be told I still had to do the ones "upstairs". As far as I remember it was the only one of our branches that had two "front doors".
How about a photo of Whitgift school in north end or Wilsons coffee shop in the same area, Burtons and Horne bros at the entrance to the school.
I lived in Lower coombe stree from 1983 till 2002
Goodness I have just taken a video cassette called "Bygone Croydon" to a charity shop!

Take a trip to the central library, they still have it. Obviously you'll remember to wear a knife-proof jacket.
