I was almost 10 when the war ended and when the newsreels of the day showed us what had been happening in those death camps .The whole cinema was horror stricken.. I tell you ,.the sight of it stays with me until this day.I will never forget seeing bulldozers scooping up dead bodies .Bodies that had been walking skeletons before they died. And the ones that were alive? Once they had been fit and healthy but not any more. Now they were reduced to bones covered in shrivelled skin trying to hold out their hands trying to ask for food. And they were the lucky ones 6 million were exterminated. It was heartbreaking ,unbelievable what one human being could do to another.Look at those newsreels now and weep .Yes, it did happen. And I hope it never happens again.
I'm often perplexed at questioons surrounding the validity of The Holocaust. There is enough personal testimony, documentary evidence and photography, along with former concentration camps still standing as monuments to the worst act of genocide in modern history.
If you have any doubts sunshine-kt why not take a trip to the camps of Aushwitz, Bergen-Belsen or any other still standing? I myself went to Dachau(not that I needed proof) where one is left in no doubt as to the authenticity of mass murder by the Nazis on a biblical scale.
If you need any more history lessons, feel free to ask.................
Various people question the death toll quoted by other sources, whether it was 5 million or 8 million it was alot and it did happen. The fact is we'll never know exactly how many died, look at the Tsunami tragedy, when you deal with events on these scales you can never be exact. At least 50 Million people died in WWII mostly civilians and most of those in Eastern Europe.
The Slavic peoples also suffered in the camps, 6 million Poles died in the concentration camps, less than half of these were Polish Jews. Have a look here if you you want to see the facts of the war from various souces (Jewish deaths are athe bottom of the first link)
It would be hard not to notice what was going on around you (as a German in WWII) when you look at the list of camps under control of the Third Reich:

I'll re-post that link as it says 'Not Found' yet it works fine in my browser.

I hope sunshine is posting this because s/he needs to do research on some history paper that asks him/her to find out what happened during the holocaust. Or I really hope sunshine is a very young child.
My grandmother survived WWII. Her sister was taken to the concentration camp while she escaped using her sister's (the one who is taken away to concentration camp) passport. The holocaust museum in Israel and Washington DC will show you exactly what you need to know.
