Would it be possible to cut the cable some distance (say 1')from the trimmer and fit an in line connector plug to which you can then add as much new cable as you like? That way you dont have to remove the cable from the handle and you get the benefit of being able to remove the cable for neater storage.
I did that when I accidentally cut through the cable with my hedge trimmer.

This sort of thing - the one I used was a bit more 'butch' and water resistant.
Could I just add that you make sure that if tyou go with this solution that you have the side of the connector with the exposed pins on the machine side so there's less chance of you casually finding out how nippy 240v can be.
Keep in mind that you'll be defeating an important safety feature by splicing the input cable... A primary reason why you can't get into the handle to repair the wires since it was designed for waterproofing... Better to take it to a Bosch dealer so they can replace it properly.
Within the handle there are security screws that should only be removed by a dealer etc, the screws are torx / Philips, you can purchase a secure screw pack, they are not the expensive Cj.
