Lever Basin Taps

In my bathroom i have Lever Taps on my wash hand basin, i have noticed that the levers which operate on/off are not straight when the water is turned off. The lever is meant to point at 6 o'clock when the water is turned off but the levers on my taps point around 5 o'clock. I just think this just draws your attention to it and is so annoying. Over the last year both taps have had washers replaced to fix dripping taps this was done by my wife's dad as my knowledge is not very good at this. Do you think when the washers were replaced that the levers have not been put back on there correct position? And if so then simply loosening the top part off tap and reposition the levers might bring them back to there original position at 6 0'clock? Any advise from someone with experience would be much appreciated,many thanks.

Yes they are very similar to these taps.

You should be able to adjust the position of the levers if your taps are standard construction.


Put the plug in the basin.
If you gently prise out the central disc you should see a screw. This holds the lever on the spindle.
If you remove that screw the lever should come off.
You should be able to reposition the lever on the spindle, probably in something like 30° steps.
Get the best position and refit the screw and central disc.
