Garden Bench

What is the best paint to use to paint my bench. I never noticed what my husband used ad there are no half empty tins in the garage to give me a clue. It is an inexpensive wooden bench with wrought iron arms, I know what to paint the metal with but not the wood. thanks x

It would all depend what is on it already stain and varnish,all-weather sealant or paint etc?

bluebird, you are so lucky having a real bench.
When Youngest Junior O was out of his cot, Mr O decided to turn it into a garden seat. So far, so good....but it was yellow with bunny rabbits on it.
It is a family mystery what happened to it.
I personally think it may have ended up in a skip outside the house of someone I know...ten miles away

I would recommend :- Sanding the wooden slats and painting them with a good quality preserver like 'Sadolin' and painting the metal ends with 'Hammerrite'

Thank you Chip I will do that. I thought I had indicated that I did not know what was on it previously if I had I would have just gone out and bought the same again!!!!!!!!!!!!

We don't know what's already on the wood either. You haven't indicated whether it's a clear varnish, a stain varnish, white paint, green paint or what???

Chipchopper's advice is sound........... unless there is a previous coating that would be incompatible with "Sadolin", but I have to say it's unlikely.

Otherwise, I was going to go on and suggest ways of dealing with it.
