I really don't want to have old baths in the run for the ducks, they look so tacky and messy. on watching the video it got me thinking that I could make a wooden duck pond with shiplap joints and then paint the inside with an (animal safe) bitumen type sealer/tanking.

I think if all the shiplap joints are sealed as it is being built it would make a nice smart water tank, possibly about the size of the one in the video or maybe a bit bigger, it would probably need some kind of bracing to stop the weight of water distorting it to much.

What do you reckon?

WARNING: this post may contain the word "gusset" Just an idea............. Make up 2 boxes with 1" (25mm) timber, anyway you like. Make them so that one fits inside the other. Line the bigger one inside with heavy duty builders' polythene. (That's the polythene that's heavy-duty..... not the builder). Put the slightly smaller box inside, and cap the top...

Great idea boxy, I will pop out and see if I can find one :-)
If any kind of liner is unacceptable then exterior grade or shuttering ply will do. 2 off 8x4 sheets, one for the bottom the other for the sides Screw and glue (polyurethane expanding wood glue) a 2"x2" frame to the outside edges of the top of the bottom sheet. Screw and glue the sides inside this frame so that they sort of meet at the corners. Screw and glue a fillet in each corner then glue on external framing made with 2"x 4" @ about 9" spacing to suit. Cover the framing with something rustic looking or pretty depending on taste. I know this method works because I made one for transporting lobsters(not quite so large in area but taller).
Boats are designed to keep water out, not in, A wooden one will leak and or fall apart.
I am with Boxtops ...... build a wooden surround for a bath rather than trying to make wood water tight ....... or what about an old fashioned tinbath ..... might look a bit funkier? Or can't you (with a lot of digging) sink the bath into the ground as a pond??
