I am going to repaint my bungalow (4 years old) hall.
It has 5 doors which are the ones that most modern dwellings have these days, white with 6 panels, that look like plastic, IMO.

I was thinking of painting a different colour for each door, not a deep gloss, just a relaxing light shade.
The colour of the walls are painted in magnolia emulsion which I intend to keep.

Do you think it would look stupid?

No, I don't think it would look stupid.
It seems like an awful lot of effort for little return.......how much time do you spend sitting in your hallway admiring the doors?
I think it would look daft.
Oh I don't know, my hallway is the nicest part of my house and I only use it to roar at the kids :)

Go for it trt, if it looks crap just redo it.
Each door a different colour? Not my taste but if you like that sort of thing, why not. I prefer things more uniformed and conservative. :)
You could do an ombre up the hall, start off with a real pale colour then darken each door as you go up, would probably look pants but you never know ;)
It would look stupid! But no doubt you will go ahead and do it, so enjoy:-)
My thought is that it would only work with white or ivory walls and the doors were very pale colours, probably satinwood or eggshell rather than gloss.
Art is subjective, what pleases one doesn't please all.
I agree with Robinia, don't use gloss as it's too shiney shiney, that's why you get the impression of plastic.

Some of the old heritage colours are really nice, have a look.
''Do you think it would look stupid?''

Yes but it is your house/your doors so do whatever you like and sod everyone else :-)
Yes, IMO, it would look stupid. Better to keep them all the same.
rocky; he is painting his hallway in his bungalow, not the Sistine Chapel. Painting and decorating is not art - it is a finely honed skill. Mind you, i would say that having been 30 odd years in the trade:-)
Agree with Rocky, there are some fab 'muted' shades out there - heritage duck egg, sage green etc. It's your home, so do what you like with it.
Personally I would choose one colour, but you never know, it may turn out great.
Just as long as you don't go too dark with the pigment or it might end up looking more like this...

It is art Ken, just a different kind.
Trt...choose your colours carefully and it could look stunning.....x
trt; if you are doing it simply to break up the monotony, you could try painting the panels of the doors in differing complimentary shades using satin finish. For instance, the top two panels in one shade of, say, blue; the middle panels in a slightly darker shade of blue, and the bottom panels in another slightly darker shade of blue. A lot of messing about, granted, but no more so than painting every door a different colour. The main framework of the door would be white and it wouldn't matter what colour you choose as magnolia is a neutral. Whatever you decide, you will have to try and upload a photo to show us how it turns out.
Ooooo..just reread Ken's post......

Ken...I'm a perfectionist when it comes to decorating...but it's an art too... x
