The paint on the ceiling in the utility room developed a crack and when I removed some of the paint there are these 'fungi'? underneath.
The ulility room is directly under the ensuite. I suspect we have a leak somewhere. Can anyone identify what these growths are, please. They're very small so haven't come out terribly well.
"Wet Rot", most likely, Tilly.
It does look as though something is leaking. It's nothing to worry about though.
The leak just needs fixing. Assuming the ceiling is still in good shape, a good mould-resisting sealer should be applied after the ceiling has dried out completely.
Thank you.
Will all the paint have to come off the ceiling, Mr B?
Having had a look in the ensuite, I see that some of the sealant at the base of the shower has moved away from the tiles. I have put some more sealant on. Hopefully, that is the cause of the water ingress. Otherwise, I have no idea about tracing a possible leak,
Think Builders pretty much answered it Tills.
Wouldn't see any reason to get all the paint of the ceiling, just get all the loose/flakey paint of first before repainting.
I have got a scraper but I removed a lot of the paint with my fingernails, whilst having a look at the cracks in the paint. I have no intention of properly scraping paint off the ceiling. I might fall off the step ladder. :-)
