Why is there an explosion of bad taste xmas lights just about everywhere - flashing coloured lights, illuminated reindeer and santa projections on outside walls??? Should be a law against it to protect those subject to epileptic fits.

Bah humbug
Yeah, ya big misery. It’s only for a couple of weeks.
It's been going on for a good few years now. I haven't heard anyone claim that they've caused epileptic fits.
I am afraid the flashing lights do, my mother had so many seizures due to them. While she always left weddings before the 'evening do' started it was difficult around this time of year to avoid.
Diddlydo seems to live in an area in a time warp, making it about two decades behind my part of Suffolk.

15 to 20years ago about two thirds of the houses in the streets around here were totally covered in garish 'American style' illuminations over a month before Christmas. In recent years though, and this year in particular, only about one in ten houses has any external illuminations, with most of them being far more tasteful than those of years ago and only put up a week or two before the big day. (I quite like the projection-style illuminations).

If I was to don my Scrooge hat, my only slight moan would be about the use of blue flashing lights in displays. As I'm driving along, I keep thinking that there's an ambulance just around the next bend, only to find that the lights I've seen are from someone's illuminations!
I suspect it's one of those things where the onus is on the affected to avoid the triggers.

I did exactly that today!
I'm pleased to know that I'm not the only one with 'hazard awareness' skills, Naomi ;-)
Oh well, let’s ban them then!
;o)
^That to Chris.
For those of you who are placing Christmas lights/decorations in your garden, can you please avoid anything that has Red or Blue flashing lights together?
Every time I come around the corner, I think it is the police and I have a panic attack.
I have to brake hard, toss my wine out the window, hide the weed, fasten my seat belt, throw my phone on the floor, turn my radio down, and push the gun under the seat, all while trying to drive.
This is just too much drama, even for Christmas.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Buenchico - forgive me for finding your response hilarious! I've migrated from my beloved Suffolk but each time we go back we comment that it's like living in the middle ages but charming with it!
LOL @ Barmaid!

Diddlydo:
Suffolk is definitely NOT stuck in the Middle Ages! The Renaissance started here well over a week ago ;-)

Love your comment Buenchico -does Stowmarket know ?!
Stowmarket? How would I know? That's FOUR whole miles from here and we Suffolk folk don't venture that far unless there's a really good reason for taking the weekly stagecoach to get there.
I don't like them either, and I do think they should be switched off at say 11pm to avoid annoying neighbours. Mostly inflatables round here. Loads of fun for the lads who had air rifles for Christmas last year.
what - they are shooting their rubber dolls in Brummyland - who would believe it?
Rather that than people's cats, high power catapults are popular too.
An emergency motion has been made to include the offending articles in the bill to ban beacons on works vehicles, amber flashing lights at crossings and those pesky blue strobes that the polis use on their way to Greggs.
Cyclists with over-bright flashing LEDs on their death trap of choice will, of course, be exempt as they ignore every rule anyway.
