Does anyone know if I can buy something like a giant kitchen knife rack, the kind that stands on the worktop with slots in, for storing saws? I have no wall space to hang them and would like to store them so they are safe and the blades don’t get damaged.
Don't know if this would work, but how about a plastic dustbin and cut slots in the top the size of the blades and then the handles would stop them from dropping down?
Also if you bought some of that plastic edging that they use on shower cubicles, you could put some of that on the blades to keep them from catching on the plastic bin!
When you buy a reasonable quality saw, they usually come with a plastic strip which slides over the cutting edge, to protect the blade. Just hang on to it, and put it back after each use - then it doesn't matter where you store it!
Similar to Kathyan's reply. Get a plastic bin and fill it with sand and/or grit and put the saws in that. The weight of the sand will stop it from overbalancing and the grit will keep the blades clean and sharp.
bb that would be excellent if they were all brand spanking new saws with the strips intact! Also maybe its just me but I find that putting the strips back on without catching my fingers is a risky business.
Not sure of the set-up but what about fixing a strip of wooden batten to the back of the work bench, with a small gap/slot to take the saw blades.
I'd recommend a wipe with an oily rag to the blades in between use, also.
