Are alumimium ladders ok to be stored outside exposed to the elements?

Yes, but beware the security aspect - can be used to get into your house.
They don't like salt water, otherwise, no problem. (Except for Buildersmate's remark, or else being pinched).
Just check that the rivets that are used for the steps are also rust proof.
Just an addition to the other excellent answers. Over time, all metals will deteriorate. Aluminium is particularly resistant to this. This is because the oxide that forms on aluminium is pretty impervious to the elements, so once it forms it protects the metal beneath. Unlike iron or steel, which can rust right through. So you should not have anything to worry about. Just something to bear in mind. Check them from time to time.
