leaky bathroom

The tiles on my bathroom floor have started to leak water from underneath them, and it has spread so that water is appearing on the carpet outside the bathroom. I think it maybe coming from the groating round the bath (which has a shower over it). Can I remove the groating myself and replace it, or should I pull up the tiles to see underneath, or is it just too big a job for super woman? Plumber anyone?

I would have thought that the first thing to do is to remove the side/end panels from your bath and check for obvious leaks. In conjunction with this(assumimg they are hidden) check the WC/basin and radiator pipes. As water obeys the laws of gravity it is most unlikely that the primary source of the leak is from underneath(i'e. coming up through your floor tiles - unless of course your bathroom is on the ground floor).

Regrouting is a relatively simple job but unless it is very old should not really be the cause of your problems. It may be that the silicone/sealant around the edge of the bath(where it butts to the tiled wall )has come away and thus water is dropping down from the join area.

Ease the carpet area away form the hall/barthroom joining strip(use a screwdriver) and see if there is anything obvious by way of a (water)path.

i couldnt agree more with the last answer ,ive just had the same problem but lost all my downstairs lights aswell,it was a leak from the waste pipe so take of the bath side and the problem will become clear very quickly
