Screws and wood problem

Picture the scene....

Wood screws to attach simple lock to wooded door frame.
Only tools to had are a power screwdriver and a normal screw driver.

Screws are of the flat head type so can;t seem to excert too much pressure on them to bite into the door frame.

Is there any gadgets out there to hold the screw steady while you give it what for with the screwdriver to get it to bite into the wood without the need for a drill?

Unless they are self-tapping screws you could do with drilling a smaller pilot hole. That my guess as to why you can't exert enough force.

If you do not have a drill then you perhaps have something that can be used as a hammer to make a pilot hole with a small nail.Knock the nail in a bit at a time and waggle it then knock a bit further!!! Do not make the hole bigger that the screw though. If you do have a hammer use it.

Rubbing soap onto the screw threads will help, but only a little, if the pilot hole is a bit tight.

put washing up liquid on the thread, knock the screw in a way with a hammer and then use the screwdriver
