What fuse do you need for a built-in single oven? Can it be on the same spur as the electric hob?

Is the hob gas with electric ignition or an electric hob ?

Sorry, but some people call gas hobs electric because of the ignition, no need to be sarcastic, and the answer is no you cant spur it from an all electric hob, and if you are thinking of running seperate supply to it, get somebody qualified to do it as work in a kitchen has to be certified by competent person

Ray - in my last house there was what I believe is called a switch plate - basically a junction box in the wall covered by a 30amp fuse, both oven and electric hob ran off it - was this a good setup ?

Hi woodchopper, trust you are well, No it was not an ideal set up, a single built in oven is rated at 13 amps so should be supplied seperately, what we normally do for this situation is put the cooker unit in a cupboard next to the oven take the feed for hob from cooker unit and put heat resisting flex on oven and plug it into socket outlet on cooker unit, otherwise install a seperate spur or socket for oven, in the case you mention you would have a 13 amp appliance covered by a 30 amp fuse, hope that is clear, not that great at explaining things in writing, Ray

If I understand you right ,the oven being a 13 amp equipment needs to have a 13 amp plug but the hob can be wired into the cooker unit. Is that because the hob has a higher than 13 amp rating? The hob is of the hotplate type and we want to change to ceramic type. Do see any problems?

Currently the cooker unit is on the wall above the work surface. I think we will move it into a cupbard and out of sight.

Hi db,, You are correct the oven is rated at 13amp and the hob is about 25amp, so the hob connects into the cooker unit and the oven plugs into the socket outlet of the cooker unit, it may have seemed a silly thing to ask about the hob, but you would be surprised at what descriptions some people give, your description was correct many aren't, all 4 ring hobs are rated at roughly the same so it is no problem to just change it to a ceramic type, good luck, and welcome to A/B, Ray,
