when painting opening window frames - when painting the outside of a house - is it only the outside part that should be painted? ie do all the edge bits go with the inside or outside?sorry i maybe didnt explain that very well, hope you understand!

if you do not open the opening parts and paint inside then the paint you apply to the outside parts only will crack and split when you attempt to open the opening parts at a later date

i do realise that and the windows will be opened but is it only the parts of the frame seen from outside when the window is shut that are painted? or parts of the edge as well?
I'd do the edges as well; it will help protect the wood (are we talking about wood?) in case any moisture gets in. If they fit very tight when closed, you may not have room to do so, however.
