Unused Chimney

I live in an old Victorian house. What is the best way to block an unused fireplace in a bedroom? I have used some packing, but I can hear condensation dripping on to it.

Any suggestions?

you can buy specific products for blocking chimneys, have a look in a builders merchants or diy store

Are you sure that isn't rain you're hearing Dad..................many Victorian houses have an open pot on top of the chimney stack...................if so, you'll need to fit a "rain hood".........................let me know, and I'll try and find a link :o)

Sounds more like drips from top of chimney. I have blocked mine with a Pilates exercise ball ....... best use for that!

In that case Dad, the usual way is to take off the surround and mantel.............board over with plasterboard (plus insulation).........or lightweight blockwork.................and plaster to match the rest..................but do leave a vent..........approx 75 x 225mm.....................essential to keep an airflow through the flue.....................
