Worcester Greenstar 30 CDi what does this symbol mean -I I-
Boiler fitted in 2005 - pilot light keeps going out and we have to keep re-setting it. It displays the symbols SE and -I I- neither of which are explained in the handbook/manual. British Gas engineer told us that the boiler is getting too cold in the attic and condensation pipe is freezing. Any advice welcome. Thanks

On new years day refused to reset, so i took the cover off, knowing that i wouldn't get a plumber. When starting i could hear a gurgling noise from the flue, debris was also visible within the condensation trap. Taking the rubber pipe from the trap resulted in a significant amount of condensate (water) pouring down the rubber tubing from the bottom of the heat exchanger. Would appear that the condensate had not been draining properly. the condensate pipework we had fitted is 22mm but is not a weatherproof type and is susceptible to frost. the manual states that external pipework smaller than 32mm should be insulated. Tapping the pipework outside i could hear what sounded like stones i can only assume it was ice buildup. Inside i disconnected the condensate pipework and using a funnel, boiling water and a few good breaths blew it through. I also took the condensate trap off and gave it a good clean, rinsing it through. Easy enough and certainly not requiring the need of a plumber. My assumption is that because the condensate trap was clogged with debris the condensate has been trickling though rather than a larger quantity of condensate passing though after a syphoning action periodically. our typical british winters don't help. So far (24 hours) the boilers been working no problems, no resets and i actually think our water is running hotter.
the SE symbol is pre-programmed into the boiler to flash up after a set number of running hours, it simply means the boiler is due for a service and does not affect the running of the boiler at all. when you have the boiler serviced the service engineer will reset the service interval counter.
the debris seen in the condensate trap is from the heat exchanger and is left over from the casting process, we clean this out when we service the boiler.
be aware that when you empty the condensate trap you are meant to half fill the trap with water again otherwise fumes from the boiler will come through the trap and into your loft, this could be very dangerous if the boiler was situated in a bedroom.
i dont know what the second error symbol you descibe is, there are some error codes that only heating engineers are given information about as they dont want the general public messing with the boilers, but if you ring worcesters technical helpline they will be happy to help you.

Lag your condensate pipe just incase it is freezing, probably not the problem though. Call out Bosch engineer, dont call local bolier repair "expert" as I did and they made a complete mess of my boiler! Be warned. Bosch will charge 195 call out but this does include 3 spare parts and they will fix it, guaranteed. I wish I had called them straight away as my bolier needed a new PCB unit, as did another neighbour of mine and these were included in the price.
the -l l- symbol means that the trap filling program has activated this is not a fault and will be operating because you turned the appliance off at the main switch
from the manual
4.F Siphon-fill programme
The trap filling programme ensures that the condensation
trap is filled when the appliance is first installed or
after it has been shut down for a long period:
The condensation trap prevents flue gas escaping from the
appliance into the room in which it is installed.
The trap filling programme is activated:
the appliance is switched on at the master switch
the burner has not been in operation for at least
48 hours
the appliance is switched from summer to winter
mode.
The next time the heating or hot water system calls for
heat, the appliance is held at minimum output for
15 minutes. The trap filling programme remains active
until the appliance has completed 15 minutes of operation
at minimum output.
The 2-digit display alternates between -l l- and the CH flow temp
cant help with the pilot problem though cos it hasn't got one!
but I will presume the burner is going out or not lighting
