Bird Table

I have just finished making a couple of bird tables out of pine. Do they need painting/staining with a non toxic paint, and if so which brand. TIA.

Pine will be relatively short-lived without protection. Any water-based-non-toxic stain will be fine.

Life Time make a nice stain. Pretty sure Ronseal stuff is water-based & non-toxic too.

Just have a scan in B&Q's and check the labels.

Thanks for the advice Naz,have been on BQ's website and there are hundreds to choose from, so it looks like a trip out to the nearest one.We have found that fat balls cut up and placed in half an egg box is attracting a Robin and some tits, plus a lone blackbird.The tables should allow them to feed in safety

This is a good time to train robins to sit on your finger. Serve bits of food in a sweet tin. Soon robin learns you bring food in a tin & will come close to you. In time, keep the food tin in your hand & it will take food from you. Poke out your finger for a perch & you'll have a lovely wild friend.

What a good idea jaydah will certainly try if and when the temperature rises above zero.
First table now stained and will shortly be ready for action.
