I know all the tips about making tulips in a vase stay upright but I had a bunch for Mother's Day and they are STILL upright after a week!! I have done nothing to them at all so why would this be when all others I have had for years have drooped after 1 day?

I assume they must be cut just right that it can take up whatever it needs from the water. Did you put sugar in the water ? I suspect location helps too. Enough sunlight but not so much they dry out & droop. Otherwise, genetics maybe. Or maybe the kids threaded their stalk with wire ;-)
I think the retailer may have added nutrients to the water they was in, while on display, possibly an anti bacterial agent also to keep them looking fresher for longer.
Some bouquets sold by stores often have a small sachets of plant food attached to the wrapping to be added to the vase which is sometimes guareneed to keep them looking fresh for a week!
the droop is most likely caused by air getting into the stems. If they were trimmed before putting into water that may have lengthened their life. I got some roses and they have already gone over...so disappointing.
My daffodils lasted a week. They were really lovely but I think the person who gave them to me (not my daughter) picked them from her garden. When she gave them to me they were in bud but came into flower the next day. Beautiful! I also have a huge bunch of mixed daffodils from my daughter-in-law but didn't get them until last Monday so they are still looking good. Complete with a vase for them.
Viagra?
Years ago someone said if you put a pin through the stem at the top by flower keeps them straight.
Are you sure they are not artificial tulips?
Maybe the growers played the Dutch national anthem to them constantly.
Lilachen, that's right, something about capillary action. I told this to my Mother many years ago, when I next called, all the tulips had two pins just below the head! All that's needed is the hole, not the pin!
zebo lol that is so funny!! poor mum. lol Brenda x
To make roses last, trim the bottom of the stems and dip into boiling water for 30 seconds. This will also revive roses that look a bit tired.
