I know there are a lot herbaceous plant you can give the "chelsea chop" to to make shorter bushes and later flowering. My question is can you do this to lupins and delphiniums? They are all about 16ins tall and have some small flower spikes on them. I have chopped the plants I am certain about but not sure on these two. Thanks for any help.

Hi foxy....This is worth a read. Personally I wouldn't touch them yet.

In my experience, the Chelsea chop is aimed at the later flowering perennials such as Heleniums, Echinaceas, sedum spectabalie, phlox etc etc. as delphs and lupins tend to be early flowerers, they would't benifit from it. Just my experience though.
