I Want To Disinfect My Pruners And Secateurs

I have some white spirit, meths, bleach, dettol etc.
Is there a correct way to do this and is there a best thing to use? Some say that bleach is not the best thing for this. Others say Lysol but what is that?

You should rub them with some methylated spirit on a cloth.

If you don't have any then use bleach, but dliute it with water 1 in 10 (1 bleach, 10 water). Be careful though, as residue or split bleach will kill plants.

Thanks Maydup. Some of the sites mention Rubbing Alcohol but I don't know what that is. Is it an American term?

I think that Rubbing Alcohol = Surgical Spirit here, strargazer.

I have found some surgical spirit (donkey's years old) and have dipped them in it. Is it necessary for this to be rinsed off the tools before they are used please?

No, it will evaporate.
And don't use chlorine-bleach on anything metallic, even diluted.

I usually make some tea or coffee, then pour some boiling water from the kettle over the blades and wipe them dry before putting them away
