Re my last post. I'm sorry that I didn't explain properly. What I really wanted to know was how do I remove them from the main plant, do I let nature take it's course or is it a bad back coming on?

You still haven't explained it very well but I went back to your last post to get a clue.
What you are trying to do, is remove the withered leaves etc . from last years strawberry plants. That was a job you should have done November/December when the plant was fairly dormant.
The plants may already have some new growth on them, but don't worry, just pull the old leaves off and your plot will look a lot tidier with the brown leaves gone. Strawberry plants are like weeds, whatever you do they always seem to re-cover.

They tend to be a bit past their best after 3 years and its usually recommended that the plants are changed after that.

Making new plants from the runners are easy, as they will readily root into 2" pots, if pegged down with a wire staple.
