Growing Blackberries

I want to grow and train a blackberry along a trellis in my back garden now, but all the online garden shops won't ship till September.
Do you think it is possible to take cuttings from an established plant? Or better to 'grub' up a bit and try and establish it that way.
I appreciate they can get out of control but I will be growing it in a large pot.

Go to the pound shop
I got mine there last year with gooseberry and black currant
And they still have them in

Any bit of blackberry root will grow!

Most nurseries have them for sale. Growing in a large Pot??, it would be preferable to plant them direct into the ground. Cover with Mulch and keep well watered when fruit starts to form.

They are rampant when they get established

Have you considered a Tayberry, Cross between blackberry and raspberry. Far superior in my opinion.

Plenty available on-line for immediate delivery. Choose your strain too. Better cropping than wild blackberries and less invasive.

I agree with Penelope2, you should be able to pick up a pot-grown plant from a nursery or garden center.

Oregon thornless is a good variety of blacberry and Logan berries are delicious straight off the vines.
Don't expect too much fruit for the first year though.

Having the fruit is a bonus. I want it to grow on a trellis and deter possible break-ins.
