After watching 'gardeners world' last week, felt tempted to grow some of these plants, which it seems would do well in my heavy clay soil.
As well as their ornamental value for the blue, star-like flowers, they apparently also have edible bulbs.
Anyone tried growing these or experienced their edibility ?
TIA.

I had a patch for years in a wet area of the garden, then the soil condition changed to dry as the neighbours put drainage in and i lost them....not sure about edible....
If they like your soil then they will do well. I have just dug up three clumps and there is well over 300 bulbs altogether.
As to edibility. Sniff. You would need to cook them very slowly for a very long time (12 hours was mentioned) to change the inulin in them to fructose otherwise they are likely to cause extreme internal wind problems.

Thanks both!
I think I'll plant some this Autumn and look forward to (hopefully) seeing them appear in the Spring.
