There are many plants to thrive in shady areas. We've an area that's well shaded and have an abundance of Cinnamon Fern, Hostas (4 different varities), Helebores, Anemones and Rugosa Roses. Many bushes and small trees will also grow, but they need extra care as to the soil condition. Best of luck!
You don't say whether the soil is dry or not. It will help people to give you answers if you say.
One plant that I have grown along the edge of my path in shade is Tiarella "Iron Butterfly". It looks good at all times of the year with its pretty leaves, and has delicate pinkish-white spires of flowers in late spring. I would recommend it.
Foxgloves grow well in shade too.
