I want to raise my lawn a few inches to be level with our new drive. It's just a small area and the turf has seen better days.
Do I have to dig up all the existing grass or can I just put top soil on and then returf on the top of that?
Thanks

I feel it's a good idea to put some topsoil on the lawn and then re-turf. I would certainly do it. Grass only needs a few inches depth of soil and you'll be giving it just that with a firm footing beneath.

Hope other gardeners agree with me......Ron

Yep....i would give the old lawn a going over with a lawn rake just to rough up the surface a bit and then, providing it's all level, just bung the new turf on top of the old....and keep well watered.

Dig up any perennial weeds first as they will just come back up and your lawn should be a success.

Good luck
