Splitting a cordyline

My lovely red cordyline died last year with the early frosts which caught me out.
I put the pot at the bottom of the garden and I've noticed now that there are new plants sprouting all around the main stem which died. Can I take these off and plant them or would I be better cutting away the dead area and leaving the offshoots where they are to grow, it does look a bit haphazard but I don't want to kill them?

Hi, I think I'd be tempted to pot them up individually, cutting them off as close as poss to the main stem and put them somewhere sheltered like a propagator, green house, cold frame or windowsill. Good Luck Tbird+
