Japanese Maple

I have a potted Japanese Maple in my backyard. Its leaves have started to appear dried out going crispy at the tips. At first I thought it was getting burnt by the sun so moved it to a shaded area but this has made no difference. Any ideas?

Is the pot in a windy area, as it sounds like windburn.
