Can anyone help to ID a plant please?

I'm trying to ID a plant in the garden of a house I've just moved in to. It's very large - the size of a pampas grass - but has very long smooth vareigated leaves coming from the base with really tall shoots towering above which have banana shaped 'pods' on them (seed pods?). Any suggestions for searching the net would be gratefully received.
