Ivy has come into my garden from next door and has smothered one of my lilac trees(it's still alive!). I need to kill the ivy. Have tried asking my neighbour to cut it back but no luck. Any suggestions?

Ivy does no harm whatsoever to healthy trees, so why not leave it there?

The Royal Horticultural Society's website has lots of information and advice:

Remember that you're legally allowed to cut back any vegetation which strays into your garden from your neighbour's property, but killing it constitutes criminal damage.

Thank you for your reply. I will be following the advice on the link you posted.
ALL trees succumb to ivy ... eventually. It will throttle anything.

SBK is your friend in this instance .. keep spraying the new growthg .. after you have cut back and pulled out all stems you can.
