Small yellow/green/black caterpillars.

I have these on a young tree/shrub which I am at present growing in a large pot. Don't know the name of it - but the branches and the leaves are all curly. What do I do with these caterpillars? I have a bug gun and rose spray - but I'd rather not kill them, just get rid.

You could give them a good squirt with a hose pipe, but I prefer the old fashioned way... and kill em.

I've just never seen this before on any plant, shrub, flower, tree etc. Is it normal?

Nah - not enough meat on them. They're only tiddlers.

If you're not squeamish, pick them off and take them for a drive to somebody's garden you don't like! I did this with a mouse I once found.

Funny how everyone's happy to do this to the caterpillars but once they're butterflies wouldn't be so acceptable! Are they about an inch long salla as sound like from the cabbage white family? Your shrub may also be a twisted willow.

You could pick them off and chuck them on some wild area.

Huh Sumar - what are you on about? I didn't say anything about offensive,it wasn't aimed at you but more everyone coming up with various ways, some tongue in cheek, to get rid of caterpillars when most people like butterflies.

Prudie is the name of my cat and nothing to with prude. I'm not a prude but I am currently angry at your answer so there.

If you don't like squashing them put them in a bucket of water and next day put them out for the birds , they love them .

I remember climbing over the neighbours wall and picking the caterpillars of his cabbages to put into my mud pies. What a gross child!

Pick them off an kill them before they spread to all the other plants in your garden (and your neighbour's garden). There are quite a few types of caterpillars that birds won't eat so I'm afraid a quick death under the sole of your boots is the kindest option.
