silk worm?
hello everyone
I hope someone can help, I was at my daughters and she asked me if I knew what was on one of her plants I had no idea so hoping there is someone who does, the top of the plant which is about 6ft tall and about 5ft spread is covered in what looks like silk thread, it's really strange but it seems to be killing the plant hope one of you can help.

The branches have all gone brown and died off so gave one a sever prune last weekend and then found another one with the same problem a few days later so that has been pruned back.
At first I wondered if it was a Tent spider, but now wonder if it is a spider mite. Hope it does not start infesting all the plants in the garden.
