Pruning a Miniature Columnar Plum Tree
I purchased two miniature columnar fruit trees during the summer, one cherry and one plum. They only grow to about a metre high. They arrived at about a foot high each. The cherry tree has not grown at all but the plum has gone beserk and is now well over two feet high and has produced two side shoots which are both over a foot long. My problem is that I have no idea how to look after these trees and am particularly concerned about the side shoots as the trees shown on the website were very compact with side shoots that looked no longer than about three inches. I have repeatedly written to the seller for advice but have had no response. I have also looked on the Internet but can only find information about apple trees and I know you prune those differently to stone fruits. Can anyone help me?

Have just found a bit of information on the website from which I obtained the trees which says they should be lightly pruned in summer so will just cut the side shoots back next summer and hope for the best. This is the site so you can see the trees in question http://www.vanmeuwen....s-cherry-plum/69141VM
