Well its nearly new year! If you have a veg patch what are you going to grow this year, and what are you giving a miss?

I'm going to grow more peppers, and winter squash, less Kale and green beans (I have enough green beans to feed a small African country). I'm not growing Cape Goseberry, they did'nt rippen.

I'd also like some suggestions on growing something a bit different.

I have an allotment, so space isn't a limitation. I'll be putting in some asparagus in March, & i'll be also be growing more autumn raspberries, I found that the fruiting period lasted for about 2 months.
I too have loads of green beans, but this year I'm growing white lady runners, & cobra french runners.
Do you grow onions or shallots? These are good as you can store them.

Hi Carrust, yes I do grow onions and garlic, but not shallots. I still have a load of jeruselem artichoke in the ground, must start to use them now the snow's gone.

I'd like to grow something a bit different this year,, as well as the usualbut not sure what yet
I am going to start planning mine soon. I was bought some raised beds for Christmas just for my veggies. We have limited space (the FH prefers lawn and flowers so I am going to have to plan really well to make the best use of the space I have).

Spuds and beetroot are definites - they were gorgeous the ones I had this year. Herbs are a definite. May try onions this year too. Leeks are a possibility, salad leaves definitely, tomatoes,
oops, pressed submit too early - now I am going to have to get my vegetable book out and start planning. Exciting!!

It is exciting Barmaid, I cant wait after such a bad winter. I have 6 raised beds, plus some extra space, and a greenhouse but it still seems not enough when I start to plan lol
I've grown kohl rabi for the last 2 years, & it's pretty easy to get good results. If you've got room why not try purple sprouting broccoli, it's well worth the effort when you see the price of it in the shops. Another one is calabrese for the same reasons. My Jerusalem artichokes only lasted a year...I dug them up as they are a very dangerous explosive.LOL
