Wooden Floors Or Carpet
Whilst wooden floors may be practical and supposedly easy cleaned, I find them cold and uninviting especially in living rooms carpet is much cosier!

I have wooden floors but they are actually covered with big rugs. I do agree with you Cari - carpet is far far warmer as my sister has carpet throughout her house and it is so warm. Some day I am going to revert back to full carpet - when I get my teeth seen to. LOL

My wife and I are in our (early) 70s, and we associate bare, wooden floors with poverty. We both came from poor, but not poverty-stricken, families, and we had rugs and lino on the floors in our parents' houses. But we had friends who had to live with no floor covering at all, and they were really poor. For that reason, we would never live in a house with bare floors.
Precisely. Carpeting for luxury, Boards for style and convenience. Carpets hold loads of stuff one can't seem to get up. I was brought up in a carpeted house and still live in one, but I often think it would be more sensible to have varnished boards. Maybe a compromise is to have boards with a rug over ? Otherwise carpet bedrooms where you are often bare footed, maybe the landing for the same reason unless all bedrooms have en suite. Don't carpet bathrooms and kitchens though for sanitary reasons. The rest is personal choice of style.
We have laminate flooring downstairs and bare floorboards (stained & polished) in our living room. Carpet gathers so much cat hair.... when I get a chance, I'm ripping up the old fitted carpets in the bedrooms. We've lifted all the stair carpet and painted the stairs, how they used to be in Edwardian times.
