Dry Cleaning Curtains.

How much would you expect to be charged for dry cleaning a pair of 90 inch drop, double width curtains?

I can't recall what I last paid, Tilly but I know MrG used to take them on pensioner's day as it was much cheaper.....and he was....I wasn't..

You can have them cleaned in situ now which is what I will do next curtain cleaning time...x

I wouldn't bother unless they're really filthy. I was going to be charged a kings ransome for my cream ones to be dry cleaned so I just gave them a good shake and rehung them. No one noticed and they look fine.

I steam mine every year and only get them dry cleaned every 3 years approx... no smoking house so never really minging !!

well I washed mine - mine are triple width with linings also 90inch drop. Then I got them pressed by the dry cleaners - worked a treat.

I threw mine in the washing machine too and dried outside. They are fine.

Spot on, Bednobs. That was the price I was quoted. I have three pairs!

She did offer me a discount of 15 % when she saw how pale I became, following the quote. :-)

It's a lot of money.

Eth, I have a dog. The curtains get grubby when she wanders about behind them.

Won't be this year I'm afraid, Tilly......curtains are fairly new and vacuumed often.....and I don't have a dog.....and smoking is only allowed in the smoking arbour..... brolly provided in winter.... ;-)

Thanks all. I have had a bad experience with washing curtains, when the fabric shrinks slightly but the lining doesn't.

These are expensive curtains. I don't want to ruin them.

Fair enough... It was worth the risk for me, as replacing them wouldn't have been much more than dry-cleaning them, but now I know they are Ok, I can do it whenever. Like you, mine had dog hair on, where the dog makes a hammock out of them over the settee and radiator :-)

do you have a steamer ? or some supermarkets hire out steamer machines for this ..our Sainsburys does..can get it for a couple of days quite cheaply

Fair enough Tilly, although I do think some people just do this sort of thing because, rather than it's needed.
I've said before, I've never washed a curtain, or had any dry cleaned. What's the point if they're not dirty?
My living room curtains, and bedroom curtains, are all cream and have been up for more than 15 years, no washing or cleaning, look like they were hung last year. Scrutiny with your specs on will reveal no muck.

Eth, I don't make work for myself to do. I'm not daft. :-)

The curtains had to come down because of the decorators. I thought I'd have them dry cleaned before storing them away for the summer.

I have posted this thread having already taken the curtains to be cleaned.
I just wanted to know if I had been quoted a 'standard' price in comparison to other parts of the country.

I really don't understand why they are so expensive to dry clean...
