Compulsory water meters
7 Answers
I have just moved house and the new water supplier is stating that I have to have a water meter. Does anyone know if this is the case or can I insist on a normal non-metered tariff? Thanks

I'm getting a meter, so I can only speak for Thames water. All new builds have, for a while, been fitted with a meter, and nothing can be done about that. Any old builds fitted with a meter have a period of grace in which you can change your mind BUT if the house goes to new owners in the meantime, the meter stays.

Please note that we now install a meter at properties in our supply region whenever a property has changed occupier. If we have installed a meter under these circumstances, there is no option to change back to non-metered charges. For more information on compulsory meters, click here
If you qualify to change back to non-metered charges and would like to apply, please email us and we will send you a form to complete.
