My friend owns her own home, and 6 years ago put her name jointly with a male friend on a mortgage application to enable him to buy. She does not pay towards his mortgage. They have fallen out and my friend wants her name removed, but he is refusing to agree to that. How does my friend stand now, and has she any way out of this?
any helpful advice gratefully received.

The lender will only agree to remove your friends name if they are satisfied that the other person can afford the mortgage on his own. It looks like he can as he has been paying it but they obviously don't think so otherwise he could have bought it in his own name from the start.

Your friend needs to speak to a solicitor.
