i recently bought a house i have only lived here for 2 months and the drains have collapsed and i am not sure who is resonsable for this problem because i dont know if i am covered by my home insurance can anyone offer me some advise

Are we talking the local sewer pipe leading from your property towards the public sewer in the road, or something else?
If so, unlikely to be covered on home insurance, but you can check your policy.
Did you have a homebuyers survey done on the property? - may have a claim on the surveyor who advised. I suppose it depends what caused failure - doesn't happpen all that often for no reason.
Even a full survey rarely checks for drainage problems. They usually advise you to get a survey done from an independent drain company. The basic survey that most people get done certainly wont cover this.

Ring your insurance company as a first step.
