Practicalities of 3 floored house
Hi ABers what do you think? Is it more practical to build a property with 3 above ground floors or 2 above ground and a basement? I'm thinking from the points of view of modern economics, eco friendliness and sheer; how cool, I have a utility room in my basement LOL
As usual all expressions of interest appreciated.
TIA

The worst thing for me was that our bathroom was in the eaves and if you got to the front door and suddenly needed the bathroom,it was a long way up and down! I moved a year ago and now have 10 stairs in my cottage....much better. I guess it depends which rooms are on which floor really. If you have a basement,I would imagine your fuel bills might be less (less loss of heat through windows?) but again it's all down to how eco friendly your building methods are going to be overall.
I've got 4 floors in my Edwardian terrace house, the entrance room/dining room and kitchen are in the sub-basement. Keeps you fit! If you are building from new, you have to think about the practicalities of below ground level building - big hole for foundations and basement, keeping it free from damp - etc.
