my mother in law tells me that if i cut the head off a yucca and plant it in soil it will regrow. as i found three yucca heads on the tip at my allotment today can anyone tell me if this is true and it is worth having a go? many thanks! helen

tried this once but it failed.  However, I was subsequently told by a green fingered friend that I should have used a rooting hormone to encourage the plant to grow new roots as without roots the plant cannot take up any water or nutrients from the soil and so will die.  I haven�t tried it since so can�t say if it the rooting hormone works but it might be worth a go.

my mother had a yucca which grew to about 6foot in a pot indoors.. unfortunatly it was mostly stem as the leaves were all at the top.. .. as an experiment because she was going to throw it out.. we cut up the stems into about 6 inch segments and covered the top end with candle wax.. we stood about 30 of them in water in the greenhouse after about a month most had rooted.. we potted them up and she has around 15 new plants all around the house and garden.. it does work.. just takes time... we never used any rooting powder
