Pruning Shrubs

[Robinia]

Have any of you lovely gardeners hard pruned, into old thick wood, any of the following shrubs and had them live to see another year?!!  I read all the books but there's so much conflicting advice when it comes to renovation pruning.

Olearia haastii (Daisy bush)

Lonicera fragrantissima (winter honeysuckle - think this one will be ok)

Cotinus (smoke Bush).

Morning donuts, here I is, present and probably incorrect but I'm ok & thanks for worrying. Hope you're all wobbling along well. Do they label all dizziness as labyrinthitis these days? It seems to be the case & I'd never heard the word until a few years ago although lots of people I know, including me, had had a spell at some time.

Well I was up at 6.30am & full of good intention but did very little yesterday too, not by choice, it just turned out to be one of those days of interruption & disruption. Might be par for the course this week, the tree man's changed his time from pm to am Wed so it'll be chainsaws at dawn, weather permitting. I should probably warn the new neighbours because they had a baby girl on Saturday & I think they came home yesterday evening. Apart from visitors I haven't had children on either side since I moved here. :o/

Thanks for that kind offer woofy, I've one or two people looking for the fuchsias & I'm going to see if maybe the local plant seller can get them but if I have no joy by the weekend-ish I might just take you up on that.

Am now messing around emailing my old schoolfriend and reminiscing about a chap I used to go out with in the year dot who she's found on FR and who wants to get in touch with me ...yeah right ..hahaaa.

Oh ha, ha Shaney. Best left alone methinks. I had a nasty experience with something very similar.

When I had my last lot dizzy spells the doctor said it was Benign Positional Vertigo which was quite common, especially as you got older. Labyrinththingymejig apparently makes you feel very sick and you simply can't move around. I think doctors have latched onto it. I am not saying that Positional Vertigo is what you have Shaney - but it's a thought. I have sessions of it - have done for a good few years and some have lasted a couple of weeks, but nobody had put a name to it before.

Yes that's it Lofty .He mentioned something called Vestibular neuritis ? And also and that vertigo thing . I don't feel sick just dizzy .I think the real diagnosis is Dizzy Dame syndrome :)
Hope your thingy in a place soon heals up .Go to doctor :)

Haha ..no he's a nice chap actually and well married for forty years ..It's all memories ,people we knew ,places we went and lots of memories of our Mod and Rocker days.
Brighton on the old Vespa,Pembroke Club in Chatham and of course our respective fathers worked in the dockyard and knew one another . etc .Can't see any harm in swopping that sort of thing .

The thingy is getting smaller after I fiddled around with it. (what a place to fiddle - I had to use a mirror (must have looked really wonderful)) Looked it up on the internet and it would appear they are common in this very embarrassing place. The online patient advice says do not worry unless they cause discomfort or get bigger or infected. I pushed it about and loaded it with Savlon. If any changes I will go to the doctor. I have to make an appointment anyway but will mention it. I feel happier to know that they are common. I think Robi is right. In our younger child bearing days I became quite blase about examinations in that area. But enough is enough - that particular place is very private these days!! (usually!!!)

I have had those, if its the same thing, it will get hot and slightly sore then burst and that's that. I used to bathe it with cool slightly salty water.

Thats what I did yesterday Woofy, bathed it in salty water, but there was no head on it, just a pea sized thing which you could feel all the way round. (Lovely topic) It was red though and a bit sore. Anyway, methinks it is on it's way out!!

Just enjoyed lunch in garden and wanted to share with you.

Neti, It's totally easy to create a lovely garden with containers, especially where you live!! No excuse, get cracking!!! x

I must admit that sitting out there in the sunshine looking over the fields has made me feel very content. I am counting my blessings!! Life is good (well it is for the moment!!)

bloomin dizzy myself today & Iwas going to wander to the shops & have a go on the eurolotto. I'd do it on line but I get a verified by Visa thingy & I haven't a clue what it is. I'll ask Tarquin when he gets home.

Honeysuckle is an early Dutch Woofy. It's flowers will be way past their best in a week or so. I have two of three types of clematis just about to come into flower. They are all twined in with the roses.

Sorry about the tooth Neti. But more importantly you seem to have overdone the sunbathing.

Just recycle water Nets. Bathwater, dishwater, water from the watching machine, water you have boiled veg in!! (Thinks "The real problem is Neti don't like gardening" ;o)")

Can you not open Tinypic Robi? I could understand it when my pics came of the scanner, but these didn't.

Just imagining Neti reading backwards!! The thingy is a lump I have in a very embarrassing area. Not the heaps area but the one forward of it!! But it seems to be going.

LOL Robi. I can tell you, even with a mirror I ended up having to be a contortionist!!

Meggie and Alice have both made 'nests' in the garden this afternoon. I had to go searching for Meggie as I had a sudden panic that she had got out onto the field. I found Alice first amongst one lot of vegetation and fortunately then found Meg. I was getting all hot and bothered worrying about her!! Big dogs have their advantages. They can't hide so easily!!
