a) apologise profusely to your neighbour for being such a nuisance and promise him that no more ball games will be played in your garden (and stick to that promise unless you enjoy having a really bad relationship with your neighbours)
b) take your son(s) to the local playing fields/park on a regular basis to get rid of their surplus energy
I am plagued for many hours in the week (even as I type this) by the slamming of footballs into fences, and the yelling and screeching of adjoining neighbours' boys (8 in total!) and you obviously have no idea how murderous this kind of noise pollution can make a person feel. I doubt also if your neighbour can sit out in his garden in peace and quiet, which is his right. So think yourself lucky that it's only a few footballs his dog has punctured.
