Sanding Woodwork.

Much as I love decorating and DIY I find sanding a pain even with my sander. I have just seen Liquid Sanding Solution. Has anyone used this and if so does it work well?

Does it claim to reduce the level of the wood as real sandpaper does, or is it just another paint stripper ? Plenty of the latter on the market, although I'm disappointed to discover I can no longer find Ronstrip :-(

I've never tried it, but one maker is Polycell, so I guess it must be kosher. Looks very good. A sort of etching solution that takes the shine off, ready for painting.
But............ sanding also clears the surface of any "bits" that may have stuck to the surface, which spoil the finish. Even so, a good way of "matting" the gloss.

OG. It says it is a pre paint preparation product for use on painted wood and metal. I wouldn`t use it if I was sanding rough wood for a smooth finish. The doors etc. in my house are beautifully smooth and painted, just not my colour. Thought if this works it would save the boring sanding bit. I have seen a couple of good reviews. If no-one here has tried it i will and report back.

lquid sanding would suggest the stuff. would be quite strong ,so would be wary of breating it in .

Thank you builder. Think sandpaper would still be needed in places but whoever painted the woodwork in the house I have just bought did a brilliant job. Fancied using this as there is a lot of woodwork and it would be dust free.

I have tried it and found it a waste of money and effort. On the other hand, a hot air stripper is brill - just watch out for any toxic fumes from elederly paint.

a good "sugarsoap" solution is the finest thing for cleaning and preparing old paintwork, however, nothing beats a good old fashioned sanding.....the final finish will always depend on the quality of the preperation.

The only hot air stripper I've used was a blowtorch. It was brilliant, right up to the point when you misjudge how long to play the flame on the paint, and the wood changes colour.

Thank you for your answers. I usually sand wood to within an inch of it`s life and wash with sugar soap. These doors were painted beige on well prepared wood a few months ago by previous owners. The finish is superb. Seems a shame to change them but I want them to be pale grey. However, if it is a waste of time and money Mosaic, I may get the sandpaper out. Have a blowtorch but will give that a miss this time.

Liquid sanders simply give gloss paint a matt finish to act as a key for a new coat of paint. They're not designed for stripping paint
