Is it true that if a freezer isn't full, it doesn't freeze everything properly? are there any websites, where I can find information about this? Thanks all x

No
Don't know
It would be burning more electricity to cool the warm air that might get in when you opened it. It would keep the stuff in it frozen.

OK, thanks very much everyone -- so as it isn't freezing properly, what could be the problem? Is it worth a call out or is it time for a new fridge freezer ?

thermostat or loss of fluid. Does it run more than it used to?
dunno if you need a new one smurf but my older relatives always said if your freezer wasnt full, to stuff it with scrunched up newspaper to make it run more efficiently than it would half empty....never tried it though.....
No smurf, it isn't. What matters is keeping foood at the right constant temperature. Here you go:

Thanks for all your answers everyone, if I do need to buy a new fridge freezer can anyone recommend a good one,, reasonably priced, and where to buy online?
Depends on what you need it for. If you buy a whole slaughtered ox at a time, you might need something different than just for mainly ready meals and the odd bag of mince.

Have a look on the Which? website for a start.
I use my freezer on a sesonal basis, so its running with very little in it at the moment until I harvest and blanch my veg. Thanks for the tip about scrunched up newspaper, I thought about filling it with something but didn't know what was best to use. Someone else suggested containers full of water?

You can fill up spaces in a freezer with an old (clean) blanket. It won't do the blanket any harm
Mine is an AEG. very heavy insulation makes it very cheap to run. It wasn't much dearer than average to buy, but it has certainly been much cheaper than the old one. An electrician worked out that it was costing me about 2 percent of the previous running costs. The old one was a Westinghouse.
Scrunched up newspaper if fine but its best to have it in a plastic bag or a supermarket carrier bag.
Sorry Zeb. I didn't notice you had covered it.
I heard that empty boxes are useful fillers too
hey seadogg how's it going? - re your last avatar
