lillies

i have been successfully growing lilies for 3yrs now,this year some in my front garden have come up with the top bud eaten off,is this slugs,i dont have lily beetle i check daily.should i just leave the stems to die back naturally or cut them back,am right to assume they wont grow another bud now.

I am no expert on lillies but I would imagine that the bud was eaten by slugs, and personaly if you have the room , I would leave the leaves to die back for  a while as they feed the bulb for next years display. Hope this helps.
