My sunflowers are beginning to flower but the heads seem to be facing permanently eastwards. I thought that the heads followed the path of the sun throughout the day.
Am I wrong?

Alas. Not all varieties of sunflower follow the sun. (Those that do are termed heliotropic or phototropic).

Thank you, heathfield. As I've thrown away the seed packet, I can't check.
I have five along the back fence and they are all facing the 'wrong' way.
However, the ones by the house wall are looking into the garden. Next year I'll look out for heliotropic or phototropic.

I've only grown them for the birds.
they are lovely tho very happy and cheerful and the birds do love them
