Can anyone tell me what kinds of great plants I can have indoors without killing? I need something that I can keep alive in an apartment...I want real plants, but I don't want anything that makes a mess or requires a ton of attention...

I love palms..any suggestions? (Oh and, I am in the U.S., but I'm sure I could find most of the same plants here)

Hi HAnn521

Spider plants are pretty easy to look after. I found this website that might be of some use :o)

http://apartments.about.com/cs/houseplants/

It gives quite a good list of easy to keep plants. Gives an example of a good palm to keep too

Hi me again

Sorry the web page I was giving the example for is under "Houseplants for everyone" but the other links on the page look like they could be pretty useful too :o)

Cactus! The only plants I can't kill and you can get some attractive ones.
I would agree with ~Wingnut~. I have a spider plant and it requires little attention and has grown quite nicely. Also have an Azalea.

Thanks to all! Wingnut, the website is very helpful, just what I needed..now my new apartment will have some living greenery in it...and this time, my brown thumb won't kill it all   ;0)

These all take medium to low light- I've had good luck with these in home and in office situations.

Spathiphyllum, sometimes known as "peace lily". Nice broad green leaves and occasional calla-lily like flowers.

A nice small palm that doesn't require much light is the Neanthabella. Used in dark Victorian homes and called the "parlor palm."

Sanseveria, or "snake plant" is super hardy and doesn't require much care- takes a bit of sun. I've used it on windowsills and outside on a covered patio.

Prayer plant has variegated leaves with a bit of bronze and pink.

Philodendron, various (currently I'm quite fond of my Swiss Cheese plant with holey leaves)

Pothos

Grape ivy
